Winter making you feel a bit meh? Then it’s time for an urban escape to Saint John where great eats, craft drinks, lots of culture, and good times will have you loving the snowy season again. To help you plan, we’ve crafted an itinerary to help you get the most out of every minute spent in the Port City.
When You Arrive
Check in to your hotel or B&B then head out for drinks before dinner. For whisky aficionados, sampling some smooth scotches under Hopscotch Whiskey Bar’s jackalope mascot is a must while wine lovers will want to soak in the unique architectural features of Happinez Wine Bar.
When you’re ready to grab a bite, you just have to figure out what you’re craving. For authentic Italian dishes, drop by Italian By Night. Want to spice things up a bit? Try one of Thandi’s Indian curries. Have the kids along and want something a bit more laid back? Head to Cask & Kettle Gastropub where classic dishes will thrill even the pickiest eater. After dinner, settle in for the night at your cosy accommodation to rest up for the next few days of fun.

Day One – Go Hopping Through the Uptown
Morning: City Market & Market Square
Grab a bite at Saint John City Market, Canada’s oldest continuing farmers’ market, before doing a little shopping at local shops and boutiques. Stop in at Freak Lunchbox for some serious candy selection then let the kids burn off the sugar rush with a swim at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre.
Afternoon: Gallery Goodness
Fuel up for your afternoon with an authentic Mexican/Guatemalan meal at Taco Pica followed by a stop at Picaroons General Store to pair your meal with an NB-made craft brew. Then it’s time to hop through over a dozen galleries within the Trinity Royal Preservation District including Jones Gallery, Citadel Gallery, Trinity Galleries, Buckland Merrifield Gallery, Tuck Studio, and Cobalt Art Gallery. With so much talent on display, there’s a good chance you’ll be leaving with a one-of-a-kind piece of art.
Night: Beer Tours & More
Ready for a cold one? Head out on a beer tour with Golden Dog Beer Tours or Uncorked Tours. If you want to sample the brews made right in Saint John, choose from Gahan House Port City, Big Tide Brewing Company, Moosehead Small Batch Brewery, Foghorn Brewing Company, Long Bay Brewery, Loyalist City Brewing Co, and Hammond River Brewing Company Inc. Top off your night by sipping microbrews while listening to vinyls at Five & Dime.

Day Two – Fun, Indoors and Out
Morning: Get Outside
Get your caffeine fix at Rogue Coffee before heading over to see the famous Reversing Rapids where the powerful Bay of Fundy tides collide with the mighty Saint John River. For the best view, bundle up and head out on Skywalk Saint John for a vertigo-inducing thrill. Next, head to Rockwood Park where you can rent snowshoes and geocache before warming up with a hot chocolate and some yummy treats at Lily’s Lakeside Casual Dining.
Afternoon: For Kids Big and Small
After a morning spent outdoors, head inside for some afternoon fun that’s perfect for kids big and small. Wander through the New Brunswick Museum, which offers exhibits on art, history, and nature in more than a dozen fully accessible galleries. Looking for a challenge? Then see if you and your family can make it out of one of five escape rooms at Breakout Saint John. Still in the mood for hopping after yesterday? Three words: Oasis Trampoline Park.
Night – Refuel in Style
It’s been a couple of big days so unwind over a decadent dinner at Port City Royal or East Coast Bistro. In the mood for something a bit more casual? Kick back at Britt’s Pub & Eatery, an English-style pub where you’ll immediately feel right at home.

Things Not to Miss in Saint John This Winter:
- Disheveling! An ExtraordinHAIRY Exhibition –Humans, plants, and animals show their true colours and present their greatest assets in this funny and shaggy special exhibition hosted by the New Brunswick Museum. Until January 26.
- Dine around Saint John during Chop Chop Winter - Over 20 participating restaurants in uptown Saint John will be offering unique menu items at special price points. Tentative dates are the last full week of February.
- Saint John Beerfest - Enjoy over 150 different beers, ciders, and more from around the Maritimes and around the world. Mid-April.
