One of the best ways to make some warm memories in the cold of winter is with an escape to the Miramichi. With cosy hotspots, outdoor activities, and genuine hospitality at every turn, you’re sure to bask in the best the season has to offer.
When You Arrive
Drop off your stuff and get settled for a weekend escape like no other. Looking for a little extra romance? Then check out the Frozen in Time winter romance package at Storeytown Cottages or the Indulge in Romance package at the Rodd Miramichi River. Historic King George B&B, with its elegantly appointed suites and cozy fireplace, is also a great option. Now, with two days of excitement on the horizon, start your weekend with some fine dining at Rodd’s 1809 Restaurant & Bar before calling it a night.

Day One – Mellow Vibes & Escape
Morning: Chill with a Coffee
A slow start to the day with a good coffee is how a vacation should be, so head to Mill Cove Coffee House, Cali.Co Café or Creative Grounds Café for just that. Choose your favourite java or pick your favourite hot chocolate for a real wintry treat. Then sip, relax, and get ready for the rest of the day.
Afternoon: Go for a Sleigh Ride
Ever wanted to go on a classic sleigh ride through a snowy, wooded trail? Then book an afternoon with Fletcher’s Sleigh Rides. A horse-drawn sleigh will take you to a cosy camp where you can go snowshoeing, sliding, or just sit by the stove and warm up with a hot chocolate. Great for kids big and small.
Night: Escape to a good time
If you’re looking for an escape in a more literal sense, try the Escape Miramichi escape room. With different rooms offering different scenarios and puzzles, you need to solve all the clues as you race against the clock to escape in 60 minutes or less.
Cap the night with a visit at Apéro, a cozy and sophisticated lounge serving up a wide variety of cocktails, wine, draught beer and craft beer in the downtown heart of Newcastle.

Day Two – Snow and Shows
Morning: Hit the Snow
One of the best ways to wake up is with crisp air brushing your face as you explore. And the best way to make that happen is to go snowshoeing at French Fort Cove or cross-country skiing at the Miramichi Cross-Country Ski Club. If there’s a fresh snowfall, make sure you take a moment to enjoy the silence of the forest.
Afternoon: Day Trip to a National Park
Continue your day of adventuring with a trip to Kouchibouguac National Park, a short 30-minute drive from the city. If you didn’t bring your gear, don’t worry - the park rents out cross-country skis, snowshoes, and fat bikes. And there’s plenty of space for you to enjoy the snow: 15 km (9 mi.) of marked classic and skate cross-country ski trails with seven warming huts along the way, plus two spots to try out fat biking or to go tobogganing. Keep an eye out for birds as you go. If you’re feeling really adventurous, enjoy some cold-weather camping!
Night: Catch a Show
After a day on the snow, head inside for a show at the vintage Vogue Theatre. Settle in to one of the comfy chairs and enjoy one the many great events. Check out the Events Calendar to see what’s happening the weekend you hit town.
