It’s harvest time at Kings Landing! The ladies are baking apple everything, there are fiery hues in the trees, and heritage varieties of squash, corn, and pumpkins deck our mantels. Fall has arrived and the annual harvest celebrations are in full swing.
This morning I tagged along with the farmhands for the morning chores — which I meticulously documented on our Instagram story (get a peek @KingsLandingNB!). Mrs. Heustis was drying vegetables, The Killeen Cabin was packed with kids dipping candles, the blacksmith was preparing his forge and every single home had picked and prepared heirloom vegetables for the Harvest Home Long-table Feast.
Kings Landing in the fall is magic. Sure, as a content specialist here, I may be biased, but no yoga class or Netflix binge session is as relaxing as Kings Landing under the canopy of autumn leaves. So put down that pumpkin spiced latte, and come celebrate the end of the harvest with us!
You’re not going to want to miss our annual Apple Fest (Sept 30 and Oct 1). Try your hand at baking with apples over the hearth, join in our country dance, watch horsepower demonstrations (aka the horse treadmill), and meet Francis P. Sharpe—Canada’s first apple breeder! Kids of all ages will enjoy guided horse and pony rides, a venture through the corn maze, 19th-century dress-up, and much more!
The following weekend (Oct 7-9) is Thanksgiving and we’ll be celebrating and giving thanks for a bountiful harvest! Young and not-so-young alike can enjoy pumpkin carving, games of skill and chance, and a Thanksgiving dance. We’ll also be hosting a musket shoot, herbal tea tasting, and children’s games. Join us on Sunday to attend a traditional service at St. Mark’s Anglican Church or to place your bids during our annual Thanksgiving Auction.
If all this talk of harvest has you craving farm fresh ingredients and time-honored recipes, you’re in luck. Gather your friends and family, and join us for an unforgettable dining experience during Apple Fest or Thanksgiving Weekend. Make your reservations now for our new Harvest Home Long-table Feast and receive complimentary day passes to Kings Landing for the date of your reservation.
During Harvest Home, we’ll be celebrating the bounty of the harvest together with music, toasts, and an abundance of seasonal food! The menu is an authentic, family-style meal from 1867. I’m talking platters of roast pheasant, venison, turkey, beef, meat pie, seasonal vegetables, brown bread, custards and more! I may or may not be drooling after writing that list out.
As you can see there is a lot going on at Kings Landing before the season ends on Thanksgiving Monday! So pack up your camera, bring your appetite and be sure to make it over for a visit this fall. We can’t wait to share in the harvest with you!
