About Your Host
Frédérick Mclaughlin (owner, Kayak péninsule) is your guide on this exciting excursion. With 11 years of sea kayaking experience and certification from Paddle Canada, he’ll help you explore the natural beauty and Acadian customs of the region by sea. Frédérick has kayaked many different areas and feels New Brunswick’s Acadian Peninsula is full of hidden treasures. Being native to the Acadian seaside town of Tracadie, he has made it his mission is to help guests discover precious moments and Acadian charm against beautiful New Brunswick seascapes.
What We’ll Do
We’ll kayak the shores of the Acadian Peninsula on one of two routes (book the route that interests you most). We’ll stop to harvest shellfish along the way using traditional methods and take a break to cook our feast on the shore. I’ve been doing this since childhood at my grandparents’ cottage in the region, and can’t wait for you to dig in to the freshest seafood you’ve likely ever tasted. This experience will wake up all your senses as you get to know how life in Acadie was shaped by the sea.
What We’ll Provide
- Life jackets
- Equipment for cooking our shellfish
- Snacks (fruit)
Where We’ll Be
You can select one of two routes:
Route One (3 hours): Where rivers and sea meet rolling sand dunes at Val-Comeau. See fishing boats heading out to sea and returning home on your left, and the sand dunes of Tracadie Bay on your right as you take in the gentle, coastal beauty of the area.
Route Two (3 hours): Where seabirds soar overhead amongst a more rugged landscape at Grande-Anse. We’ll explore Pokeshaw Rock – a cormorant nesting site – and admire extraordinary caves and cliffs 30-50 feet high. Don’t forget your camera!
