About Your Host
Residents of Acadian village St-Louis-de-Kent will serve as local hosts – you may be joined by ‘Marcel François Richard’ or ‘Marie Babineau’, dressed in period costume and ready to delight with stories of the Acadian way of life long ago.
What We’ll Do
St-Louis-de-Kent is believed to be the birthplace of the Acadian flag. We’ll walk the trails of the Grotto and Calvary, a heritage park and place of pilgrimage and of assembly in the heart of the village. Your host will help you follow in the footsteps of Acadian nationalist, Marcel-François Richard, who created the Acadian flag in 1884 and was responsible for the choice of the Acadian national anthem. See the village’s huge Acadian flag flying overhead in celebration, and take a flag home with you as a memento.
Where We’ll Be
Nestled on a hill overlooking the Kouchibouguacis river and surrounded by forest, St-Louis-de-Kent is a charming Acadian village that sits at the main entrance to Kouchibouguac National Park. We’ll meet outside of Saint-Louis-des-Français church at 1 Notre Dame St. to begin our excursion.
